mONDA — Nights 1–4
Hotel Castillo de Monda
Our trip starts at a stunning hilltop castle-hotel above the village of Monda with 360º views of the surrounding hills and countryside. Like most ancient sites in Andalucía, Castillo de Monda is built on the remnants of empires past.
Originally occupied as early as the 9th century, the modern restoration artfully conforms to the rugged terrain, creating chill spots for post-ride recovery — a rooftop restaurant, cliffside pool, and garden café-bar with cascading fountain. Arched passageways and Moorish motifs echo the region’s rich heritage. This is our base for bicycle adventures.
RONDA — Nights 5–7
Hotel Reina Victoria
Act 2 of our Andalusian adventure unfolds in Ronda, the town that enchanted Ernest Hemingway. Orson Welles loved Ronda so much he wanted to be buried there… and was! It’s easy to see why. With its dramatic bullring and Puente Nuevo bridge spanning the Tajo gorge, Ronda is a magical spot above the valley farms.
We stay on the cliff’s edge at the historic hotel and spa Reina Victoria where German poet Rainer Maria Rilke was ignited with creative fire. (His 1912 room is preserved as he left it!) Poolside under palm trees we get our gears turning for epic rides ahead.

WHERE YOU’LL RIDE
WHITE VILLAGES AND WILD MOUNTAINS of Andalucía
From Alozaina to Zahara, you’ll get to know the winding roads west of Málaga on five unique routes.
We’ll stop for coffee, lunch, and ice cream in Spain’s most iconic spots along the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos (white villages). These charming rural towns are famous for heat-resistant whitewashed buildings built long ago on defendable hills.
With narrow streets that hug the terrain, and houses piled up like sugar cubes, each pueblo presents a chaotic little labyrinth to unlock. They have strong regional identity and reveal treasures to the determined explorer — like flower-filled balconies and a hidden café terrace.
From town to town we’ll ride through mountainous pine forests and abundant farms with goats, grain, olives, almonds, and grapes.
About Our Routes

Our first journey introduces us to the geography of Andalucía where charming white villages dot a landscape of hills and orchards, stitched together by roundabouts and smooth roads. We warm up with a loop of the fertile Guadalhorce river valley, stopping for lunch in Pizarra and afternoon coffee in Alozaina before winding our way back through the foothills of the Sierra de las Nieves to our castle-hotel in Monda.

A few hills get us rolling before we fuel up for the mountains on churros con chocolate in Alozaina. Our path snakes upward among pinsapo pine trees in the nature reserve and over the Puerto de las Abejas pass to El Burgo. After lunch we climb the dramatic mountain road to Casarabonela, dropping into the ancient cliffside white village for coffee on the plaza. We return home across the valley on quiet farm roads.

Today we ride to the bustling pueblo blanco of Mijas perched above the Mediterranean. We make a figure eight there and back, starting in the scenic valley before climbing along the coastal ridge. The twisty ups and downs land us in the central plaza for lunch, where we gaze at the ocean overlook and stroll the narrow streets before heading homeward via Coín for creative ice creams on Plaza de la Alameda.
40 miles // 4,229 ft.

From our new base in Ronda, we ride one of the most epic loops in Europe. Golden hay fields lead to the lush forests and limestone formations of the Sierra de Grazalema. We cross the Rio Guadiaro and follow it to our coffee stop in Cortes de la Frontera. From there we push deeper into the nature park before a solid climb to lunch. On the return journey we stop and sample payoyo goat cheese.
69 miles // 7,029 ft.

Our final ride promises fireworks. From Ronda we head to Grazalema for coffee before a big climb over the Puerto de las Palomas. The swift 8-mile descent into Zahara de la Sierra warps spacetime with its hairpin turns. We lunch overlooking the reservoir then ride through fields once farmed by Romans. Finally, we stop for coffee in Setenil de las Bodegas, inhabited for 20,000 years and famous for its 12th century dwellings tucked under cliffs.
